Classifying Brumer’s quintic polynomials by weak Mordell-Weil groups
We develop a general classification theory for Brumer’s dihedral quintic polynomials by means of Kummer theory arising from certain elliptic curves. We also give a similar theory for cubic polynomials.
متن کاملNewton maps for quintic polynomials
The purpose of this paper is to study some properties of the Newton maps associated to real quintic polynomials. First using the Tschirnhaus transformation, we reduce the study of Newton’s method for general quintic polynomials to the case f(x) = x − c x + 1. Then we use symbolic dynamics to consider this last case and construct a kneading sequences tree for Newton maps. Finally, we prove that ...
متن کاملClassifying 2-groups by Coclass
Now that the conjectures of Leedham-Green and Newman have been proved, we probe deeper into the classification of p-groups using coclass. We determine the pro-2-groups of coclass at most 3 and use these to classify the 2-groups of coclass at most 3 into families. Using extensive computational evidence, we make some detailed conjectures about the structure of these families. We also conjecture t...
متن کاملOn the Structure of Quintic Polynomials
We study the structure of bounded degree polynomials over finite fields. Haramaty and Shpilka [STOC 2010] showed that biased degree three or four polynomials admit a strong structural property. We confirm that this is the case for degree five polynomials also. Let F = Fq be a prime field. 1. Suppose f : F → F is a degree five polynomial with bias(f) = δ. Then f can be written in the form f = Pc...
متن کاملClassifying fuzzy normal subgroups of finite groups
In this paper a first step in classifying the fuzzy normalsubgroups of a finite group is made. Explicit formulas for thenumber of distinct fuzzy normal subgroups are obtained in theparticular cases of symmetric groups and dihedral groups.
